Menlo School Athletic Center // Atherton, California

Mechanical design for the new $18M, 55,000sf facility consisting of two gyms, six locker rooms, wellness center, classrooms, training facilities, and offices for coaching and facilities staff. The design takes advantage of the site’s below-grade location to use the naturally cool earth to buffer the interior temperature, reducing the need for air conditioning. Natural ventilation is introduced through the bleacher seats while the height of the structure allows warm air to stratify above the lights and ductwork. Air conditioning required will be provided by a ground source heat pump system selected due to the neighborhood’s sensitivity to noise. Utilized design build delivery.
