Mechanical design for the $21M Curry Village, which houses over 200 park employees in 180 studio units in four different floor plans with associated parking, an employee wellness center, management offices and storage. Our design features an energy-efficient ground-source heat pump system with the ground field buried beneath the parking lot. This system limits visual and environmental impacts while meeting the owner’s goals for higher quality housing for its staff. Our energy analysis resulted in a design that outperformed California’s 2001 Title 24 requirements by 31% and qualified for a $40,000 Savings By Design owner’s incentive. It also included documentation, 3rd party verification, and building performance benchmarking to receive a Federal Energy Tax Credit of $110,196.
