Guttmann & Blaevoet has been on the forefront of the charge for building decarbonization.
Developing New Industry Standards, Policies, and Programs
- We are actively involved with setting standards and developing policies for California Energy Commission (CEC), Bay Area Air Quality Management District, UC Office of the President (UCOP), and other municipalities throughout California.
- Steve Guttmann, Ted Tiffany, and Travis McDaniel serve on the ASHRAE’s Building Decarbonization Task Force, working with over 100 volunteers from around the world to guide ASHRAE programs, research, and standards to more directly combat the global climate change impacts of the built environment.
- Ted Tiffany serves on the advisory board of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, which has helped municipalities and higher education institutions draft policies and requirements for building electrification for both new and existing buildings. He also helped utility companies such as PG&E, Peninsula Clean Energy, Silicon Valley Clean Power, and SMUD develop incentive programs.
Bringing Awareness and Sharing Best Practices
- Steve Guttmann serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the William J Worthen foundation and the Principle Investigator leading the development of the Building Decarbonization Practice Guide - a tool for broadening the understanding among all project stakeholders about how to conceive, design, build, and operate all-electric, low embodied carbon buildings, and to improve communication about the financial, social, health, and environmental benefits of decarbonization.
- G&B is a proud sponsor for the all-virtual Climate Solutions Now Conference, hosted by the Initiative for Climate Leadership and Resilience at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo being held on October 2-3, 2021. Our team will share their expertise in building decarbonization, grid harmonization, and water reuse.
Helping Our Clients Be Carbon-Free
- G&B has developed patent-pending innovative designs utilizing off-the-shelf equipment and systems to achieve zero operational carbon buildings.
- From mixed-use developments to offices and classrooms to science labs and healthcare clinics, nearly 70% of the buildings we are currently working on are designed to be all-electric.
